What is a tender bid?

A tender bid (also called a bid, a tender response or a submission) is the offer a company sends to a buyer that has published a tender. A bid normally contains a price, a description of how the work will be done, proof of eligibility (registrations, certificates, references) and any guarantees the buyer asks for. The buyer scores every compliant bid against the criteria in the tender document and awards the contract to the winner.

Where to bid depends on where the buyer is. Government departments, state-owned companies and public agencies publish their tenders on official portals, so the same sector can have bids open in dozens of different systems. TenderG brings them into one list. Compare terms in RFP vs tender.

Frequently asked questions

What is a tender bid?
A tender bid is the offer a company submits in answer to a published tender: the price, the proposed solution and the evidence that the company can deliver, all in the format the buyer asks for.
Is a bid the same as a tender?
In everyday use the words overlap. A tender is the buyer's invitation to offer; a bid is the supplier's offer in reply. Some countries call the invitation a bid solicitation, an invitation for bids, or a request for proposals. See RFP vs tender for the differences.
How do I find tenders to bid on?
Buyers publish tenders on official procurement portals, which differ by country and often by agency. TenderG collects open tenders from 76 portals into one searchable list, so you can filter by country, sector, value and closing date instead of checking each portal.
Do I need a bid bond to submit a bid?
Only some tenders ask for one. A bid bond or bid security is a guarantee that you will sign the contract if you win; the tender document states whether it is required and for how much.
